15 Australia Day Games for kids
Mark out an area on grass or sand if you’re at the beach. Set some rules, like no over arm. Use small thongs for little kids they find them easier to use.
EAT A BISCUIT INTO THE SHAPE OF AUSTRALIA
Get hold of some Arnott’s arraroot biscuits and see if you can eat your way into an Australian shape! This is so much trickier than it sounds!
PLAY THE CHOCOLATE GAME
Grab a block of chocolate, a plate, knife, fork, dice and some aussie dress up’s like an apron, hat and thongs. The person in has to first dress up and then use the knife and fork to eat the chocolate. Whoever rolls the next 6 on the dice is next in, quickly get dressed and start eating!

Watch your Wide Bay Kids as they race around an obstacle course trying not to drop their egg. We love using egg shaped christmas decorations and big kitchen ladel’s for younger kids. Start a timer or race against each other.
BLOW SOME BUBBLES
Get out your favourite bubble wands and see who can blow the biggest bubble, make and catch the most bubbles.
HAVE A GAME OF BEACH OR BACKYARD CRICKET
Set up your stumps and cricket pitch. A bin or chair will do if you don't have the real thing. Over the fence or in the water is out.......we usually let the younger kids have 4 hits before it's the next persons turn.
GO ON AN AUSSIE SCAVENGER HUNT
Send the kids out into the back yard with a list of Aussie things to collect.
How Aussie can you dress? If you are hosting an Australia Day party, have some spare costume essentials...like....Aussie tattoos, zinc, aprons and Aussie print thongs.
GET MOVING WITH SOME SACK OR 3 LEGGED RACES
Use old pillow cases as sacks or to tie your legs together, each child jumps or runs their way over the finish line. You can make the track harder for adults by adding obstacles.
PIN THE TAIL ON THE KANGAROO
This old favourite is always a hit. Use an old cardboard box to create your own kangaroo.
HAVE A WATER FIGHT WITH WATER BALLOONS
Works in any kind of weather. Kids love chasing after you and especially love it when you get saturated! Australia Day is all about having fun in the sun with water, embrace it!
HAVE A GAME OF CARDS
Our WBK's love a game of cards in the shade when it gets too hot to play. We love fish, snap, and old maid especially after lunch or before nap time. We found these giant cards at Kmart.
HAVE AN EATING COMPETITION
Try eating apples suspended on strings, meat pies, cream donuts or vegemite toast without the use of your hands. See who can gobble down their favourite Aussie food first.
This is a great game especially if adults get involved!
PLAY HIDE AND SEEK
We love hiding egg shaped decorations around the backyard, cheap xmas decorations are perfect. The kids can't get enough of this game.
