Welcome to Bundaberg is an initiative of NGO Wide Bay Kids in response to the growing number of people moving to the region. The aim of Welcome to Bundaberg is to improve the health, wellbeing, work and lifestyle outcomes of people living in the Wide Bay region by activating and implementing a range of community-led strategies across a range of services for a more connected cohesive community.

Health Workforce Pilot

Phase II of Welcome to Bundaberg is a whole of community attraction and retention strategy for tertiary qualified workforce. The aim is to help reduce workforce shortages keeping newly arrived professionals living and working in Bundaberg.

Through engaging interviews with industry leaders, service providers, and community influencers, you will learn how they have successfully partnered to make a positive impact on both their businesses and the local community. Each Welcome to Bundaberg Pack is individually customised to suit the needs of each recipient.

  • Moving to a new place can be exciting but also overwhelming and isolating. It's important for community members to help new residents feel welcome.

  • Introduce yourself and greet new residents warmly.
  • Offer to show new residents around the neighborhood and introduce them to local shops and restaurants.
  • Provide information and resources about the area, such as public transportation, local schools, healthcare providers, and community services.
  • Encourage new residents to get involved in the community through events and volunteer opportunities.
  • Create opportunities for new residents to meet and connect with others, such as hosting a welcome party or encouraging local clubs to host inclusive events.
  • Be patient and understanding with new residents as they adjust to their new home.
  • Regularly check in with new residents and offer support and encouragement.
  • Helping new residents feel like they belong contributes to building a welcoming and inclusive community.
