A-Maze-Ing Ways to Be Connected: Interactive Maze Launches at Options Day
Bundaberg residents living with disability will have the chance to try something new at Options Day on Tuesday, 23 September 2025. Wide Bay Kids Community Inc will launch A-Maze-Ing Ways to Be Connected alongside the wider Connected in Crisis: Digital Skills for Health & Resilience project.
The maze is an interactive, hands-on journey designed to help people learn about digital health, emergency, and disaster preparedness in fun and practical ways. Visitors can make their way through themed zones that highlight key skills, including packing a go-bag, identifying local hazards, testing crisis communication tools, and trying out digital health tools such as My Health Record, e-scripts, and telehealth apps.
The Connected in Crisis project was developed in response to the barriers many community members with intellectual disability face when accessing health information, connecting with services, or responding to emergencies. Supported by the Resilient CARE program and funded by Country to Coast Queensland (CCQ) through the Australian Government’s PHN Program, the project focuses on building confidence and making preparedness inclusive.
Connected in Crisis Project Manager, Angela Twyford, said the initiative is designed to combine education and engagement.
“We know that being able to access digital tools, understand your health record, and have a plan in place can make a huge difference in an emergency. By offering digital mentoring alongside fun, inclusive learning experiences like the maze, we’re making preparedness both accessible and engaging.”
The maze also links to the new Connected in Crisis mentoring program, a free service where trained mentors will work one-on-one with people with intellectual disability to build everyday digital skills. This support will cover tasks such as setting up MyGov and Medicare accounts, booking appointments online, and signing up for emergency alerts. Insights from the project will be shared with primary healthcare providers to support co-designed solutions that improve digital health and care pathways.
The maze will be open throughout Options Day at the Bundaberg Recreational Precinct, and entry is free.
