Things to do in Gin Gin with Kids
We’ve put together this list of things to do in Gin Gin with kids for those days when you feel like a day away from home, or something different but don’t want to travel too far.
In the warmer months you simply have to check out the local pool. It has an awesome spot for younger kids. Another great place is the park at the Recreation Reserve.
Here’s our pick of things to do in Gin Gin with Kids.
Take a dip at the Gin Gin Pool
This pool is pretty awesome. It has a small water play area for younger kids which includes a lagoon, slippery slide, tipping buckets, water spurting animals and fountain mushroom. There is also a great 25m pool for everyone else.
They have a volleyball court, and fabulous brand new amenities building, all set in a lush tropical garden with plenty of shade. The pool is open September to April 7 days per week and our Wide Bay Kids love it!
Have a Play at Recreation Reserve Park
This is the amazing park you will spot as you head into Gin Gin from Bundaberg or Childers. What an awesome place for a play! There is something for everyone. Forts for younger and older kids, a huge double flying fox, swings, and see-saws.
There is also plenty of shade and 2 bbq’s. Just next door to the park is a tennis court and shaded skate bowl. The only downside is the walk to the toilets. To access the park turn left at Walker Street at the big P sign as you enter town.
Check out the Gin Gin Library
The Gin Gin Library is a great space for some quiet time. Open Tuesdays to Fridays from 9:30am to 4pm (6pm Thursdays) closing for lunch from 12:30pm to 1:30pm and on Saturday from 9am to 11:30am. The library hosts regular story time sessions during the school term and great kids activities during the school holidays. The library is situated at 4 Dear Street.
Go to Boolboolda Tunnel
A 20 minute drive out of Gin Gin along the Mt Perry Road you will find the Boolboonda Tunnel. The longest unsupported tunnel in the southern hemisphere! A must see local attraction. We have fond memories of visiting the tunnel as kids.
Just before the tunnel entrance is a huge tree , which is customary for tunnel visitors to carve their name into. A picnic table is located under the tree, a perfect spot for a rest while the kids play!
Head to Bucca Crossing
Bucca Crossing is a tranquil picnic area just 25 minutes from Gin Gin and somewhere our Wide Bay Kids love to visit. The Kolan River flows through the crossing and makes for a perfect swimming, snorkeling, fishing, and canoeing spot with kids
