Inspired by the popular webcomic Heartstopper, Beyond Boundaries aims to provide a platform for young people to express their unique stories and perspectives. Programs will guide participants in bringing their creative visions to life, ensuring that their voices are heard and celebrated.

Creative Writing

Let your story be told.  Follow the mentorship of local author Selena Silcox in identifying your story ideas and transforming them into a developed narrative.

Day in a Life

Join local storyteller Sarah Tump on a journey of self-expression as you create a "Day in a Life" that celebrates your authentic self. Through vision boards and short-form videos, participants will have the opportunity to showcase their individual stories under the expert guidance of Sarah Tump.

Character Creation Illustration

Unleash your creativity and bring your unique characters to life with Bec, also known as Bexylum Art. In this workshop, participants will learn the art of character illustration, guided by the expertise of manga artist Bexylum Art. Discover the secrets behind crafting compelling protagonists that reflect your own narrative.

Workshop #1

Learn how to create a visual embodiment of your protagonist through the art of Manga. In this workshop you will learn the basics of character design through traditional mediums. This will open up new methods of enhancing your stories through visual art.

You will be walked through how to storyboard your characters into comic style illustrations that can be furthered into your preferred method of storytelling. With this knowledge you will be able to put text and illustration together to your readers!

Workshop #1

In this workshop Sarah introduces the "Day in a Life" (DIAL) concept. Emphasising diversity, participants will explore and embrace their true selves by creating a vision board and/or video diary allowing for creative expression. This workshop will run for 30 mins, participants will create their vision board at home to bring to workshop #2.

Workshop #2

Participants share their DIAL (created at home).  Each person presents their DIAL art and/or video, followed by fellow participants writing anonymous feedback describing how the presentation made them feel. The group reads these reflections aloud to highlight their inclusivity and worth. After all presentations, an open discussion fosters connections, self-expression, and new bonds.
