After Dark: Frogging & Wildlife Spotting – Burnett Heads
Families can explore the natural world after sunset with Council’s After Dark: Frogging & Wildlife Spotting experience at South Head Parklands this January. Held on Wednesday 14 January and Wednesday 21 January, these free guided night walks are led by the Natural Areas team alongside special guest David Flack from the Queensland Frog Society. The walk is an easy under-1km route, suitable for beginners and curious young adventurers aged six and above. It’s a chance to slow down, listen to the night sounds and experience the local environment in a whole new way.

Along the way, families may spot other nocturnal wildlife while learning about the importance of reducing light pollution and protecting local habitats. The walk is slow-paced and suitable for all fitness levels, making it a great introduction to night-time wildlife watching.
Families are encouraged to wear enclosed shoes and bring a hand-held torch or headlamp, along with water. A light jacket may be helpful on cooler or damp evenings. All children must be supervised by an adult at all times. The group will meet at the picnic table near the playground at the South Head Parklands carpark before setting off together.
With limited places available, bookings are essential. This night walk is a great way for young nature lovers to deepen their understanding of frogs, habitats and the ecological world that comes alive after dark. It’s an engaging outdoor activity that blends science, adventure and environmental awareness in a relaxed community setting.
