Animals and Their Eggs Baldwin Swamp

If you’re looking for a school holiday activity that gets kids outdoors and learning without it feeling like “school”, this one is a great fit. Animals and Their Eggs is a guided walk through Baldwin Swamp Environmental Park, where children can explore nature up close and learn about the wildlife they might spot along the way. It’s practical, hands-on, and perfect for curious kids who love asking questions, collecting leaves and sticks, and noticing the little details in the natural world.
This activity is run by Bundaberg Regional Council, led by Council’s Natural Areas Officer. Children will join a walk through Baldwin Swamp and learn about the animals they encounter, with a fun challenge along the way: matching animals to their eggs. After the walk, kids will finish by collecting natural materials and creating a nest to protect some of their own “eggs”.
Sessions run at 9am on Friday 10 April 2026 and again at 9:00am on Wednesday 15 April 2026. It’s designed for children aged 5–10 years and is free, but bookings are essential and places are limited.
Nature-based activities like this support so many skills at once. Kids build observation and curiosity, practise listening and following instructions, and learn to respect the environment by understanding how animals live and survive. The nest-making element also adds a creative, problem-solving challenge children have to think about protection, structure, and the materials around them. For families, it’s a meaningful holiday option that’s low-cost, local, and genuinely enriching.
