Bundaberg Locals Invited to Become Digital Mentors for Seniors in 2026
Wide Bay Kids Community Inc is calling on community-minded locals to take part in a new initiative that will strengthen digital confidence and connection for older Australians across the Bundaberg region.
The organisation will train and support up to 100 new Digital Mentors in 2026, helping more seniors feel safe, confident, and supported online. The program is funded through Good Things Australia as part of the national Be Connected initiative, which empowers older Australians to build their digital skills and confidence using technology.
Training will be delivered by a qualified Lead Digital Mentor, delivering a full-day workshop to volunteer participants. Each mentor will also receive two hours of follow-up coaching, ensuring they feel ready and supported when helping seniors in the community.
The program is designed for everyday people — no prior experience is needed. Participants will learn practical digital mentoring skills, simple step-by-step approaches to teaching others, and strategies for supporting older people with patience, confidence, and clarity.
“The heart of this program is community connection,” said Angela Twyford, Wide Bay Kids Community Inc. “Digital Mentors play a vital role in helping older residents feel included, supported, and able to navigate technology safely. It’s a meaningful way for locals to give back.”
Digital Mentors go on to support older Australians through the Be Connected program, which offers free resources on staying safe online, using smartphones, avoiding scams, accessing online services, and building essential digital skills.
