Bundaberg to Train 100 Digital Mentors to Help Older Australians Get Connected
Bundaberg has been selected to deliver the Digital Mentor Capacity Builder Program, an initiative designed to train 100 local Digital Mentors who will support older Australians to build confidence and skills online.
The program is funded through the Be Connected initiative, managed by Good Things Australia Foundation, and will be coordinated locally by Wide Bay Kids Community Inc from August 2025 to July 2026.
Digital Mentors are community members who volunteer their time to help older people use technology, whether that’s learning how to make video calls, use apps, avoid scams, or access online services.
“We’re looking for people in Bundaberg and surrounding areas who are passionate about helping others and want to make a difference in their community,” said Angela Twyford, Wide Bay Kids Community Inc. “You don’t need to be a tech expert, just patient, supportive, and willing to learn alongside others.”
As part of the program, Digital Mentors will:
- Attend a one-day training workshop delivered in Bundaberg.
- Receive two hours of follow-up coaching support to build confidence in their mentoring role.
- Gain access to resources and ongoing support through the Be Connected network.
Once trained, Digital Mentors will volunteer with local community organisations to support older Australians, helping them feel safer and more confident online.
The project is supported by a Capacity Builder Grant, ensuring all training and resources are provided free of charge to participants.
How to Get Involved?Registrations are now open for those interested in becoming a volunteer Digital Mentor. Anyone living in Bundaberg or nearby communities who wants to support older community members is encouraged to apply.
