Little Green Thumbs Kids Gardening

School holidays can be the perfect time to get kids outside, hands-on, and a little bit muddy especially if you’re looking for something that isn’t another screen or another noisy indoor activity. Little Green Thumbs Kids’ Gardening is a simple, feel-good session where children can learn the basics of growing things, in a way that’s practical and fun. If you’ve got a child who loves digging in the yard, collecting leaves, or asking a million questions about plants, this is the kind of activity that usually lands well and you’ll likely head home with a proud little gardener.
This session is for kids up to 12 years and is a hands-on gardening adventure. Children will get to plant their own seedlings, dig in the soil, pull a few weeds, and learn what it takes to help a garden grow. There’s also a chance to taste-test fresh foods they’ve helped plant, which can be a great way to encourage curiosity around healthy eating and where food comes from. It’s a free activity, but bookings are essential, so it’s worth organising ahead of time.
Gardening is one of those quiet skills that builds lots of good things at once. Kids practise patience (plants don’t grow instantly), responsibility (watering and caring), and confidence (they can actually make something grow). It also encourages sensory play and time outdoors, which can be a welcome reset during the school holiday period. For families, it’s a practical activity that’s easy to talk about afterwards too — what did you plant, what did you learn, what would you like to grow at home? Even if you don’t have a big backyard, it can spark ideas for a pot on the balcony or a tiny herb patch.
