Mum Walk Launches Second Group in Bundaberg to Support Maternal Mental Health
Thanks to the incredible support from the Bundaberg and Bargara community, a second local Mum Walk group has launched—offering another free, inclusive opportunity for families to connect, move, and thrive together.
Mum Walk is a national registered charity that directly supports maternal mental health by addressing key risk factors associated with postpartum depression and anxiety. In Australia, one in seven women experience perinatal mental health disorders after birth. Globally, the British Red Cross reports that over 90 percent of mothers feel lonely in the postpartum period.
Launched in April, Mum Walk Bundaberg/Bargara has already built a vibrant community of nearly 200 families. Every Tuesday, a “parade of prams” can be seen strolling along the Bargara Foreshore. With growing interest and community support, a new Thursday morning walk has now begun at the Bundaberg Botanical Gardens.
Mum Walk Bundaberg/Bargara Local Leader, Sara Merry, said the response from local families has been heart-warming.
“Mums I met through the Margaret Rose Centre encouraged me to start a local walk—their enthusiasm was so reassuring,” said Sara. “We’re building friendships, sharing laughs, and creating a space where positive mental health can grow.”
Community member Amy shared that the group has made a huge difference in her life.
“I absolutely love my Tuesday mornings. It’s so good for my mental health, and what’s good for me is good for my bub,” she said. “I’ve even arranged my return to work so I can keep attending.”
Mum Walk Founder Kimberly Kay said the organisation is built on the belief that no mum should walk alone.
“We’re a mum-led movement, and seeing the impact in the Bundaberg region has been deeply fulfilling,” she said.
Mum Walk is Australia’s leading platform for finding or starting a social pram walking group. To learn more, get involved, or partner to keep walks free and accessible, visit www.mumwalk.org.
