Nardoo Nursery’s Herb Garden for Kids

If you’re looking for a school holiday activity that’s calm, practical, and gets kids outdoors, this is a great option. Nardoo Nursery’s Herb Garden for Kids is a short, hands-on workshop where children can dig into real gardening skills and head home with herbs they’ve planted themselves. It’s also a lovely “shared” activity — kids get to be hands-on in the garden, and parents can enjoy the relaxed nursery setting at the same time.
This workshop runs on Wednesday 8 April 2026, from 10am to 11am at Nardoo Nursery. It’s designed for children aged 6+, and parents are invited to attend. Guided by Nardoo’s horticulture manager, kids will prepare a garden bed and plant a selection of herbs including basil, parsley, mint and chives. They’ll also learn what herbs need to thrive and how herbs can be used in everyday cooking. Each child will receive easy-to-grow herbs to plant in their own pots and will take home their planted herbs plus simple care tips. The cost is $25, and bookings are essential.
Parents are welcome to relax on the deck under the trees, with the option to purchase barista coffee and cake from the café.
Gardening is one of those activities that builds confidence quietly. Kids learn patience, responsibility, and problem-solving as they plant, water and care for something living. Herbs are a great starting point they’re hardy, they smell amazing, and children can actually use them at home, which makes the learning feel real. For families, it’s also a simple way to slow down during the holidays and spend an hour doing something hands-on together (without needing a full-day commitment).
