QMARA Pylon Racing – Bundaberg
by Renee Bock · Published · Updated

If your family enjoys hands-on hobbies, high-speed action and something a little different from the usual weekend sport, the upcoming QMARA Pylon Racing event in Bundaberg is worth a look. Bringing together radio-controlled aircraft enthusiasts from across the region, this two-day event is as much about community as it is competition.
Hosted by the Bundaberg Aeromodellers, the event offers spectators the chance to see skilled pilots race model aircraft around a marked course at impressive speeds. It’s an interesting outing for curious kids, teens interested in engineering or aviation, and adults who appreciate the craftsmanship behind radio-controlled flying.
QMARA Pylon Racing will run from Friday 28 February to Sunday 1 March 2026 at the Bundaberg Aeromodellers field. (Times have been adjusted to Brisbane time.) Racing begins at 9.00am on both Saturday and Sunday, with the field open for practice and set-up on Friday.
The weekend will follow an amended schedule, with eight rounds of Short Course racing on Saturday, followed by four rounds each of F3T, F3D and F3F across the two days. For those staying on site, camping is available at the field, including hot showers, with a small fee payable to the club.
The club canteen will be operating throughout the event, offering breakfast (including bacon and eggs), burgers for lunch, and drinks available all day. Families are welcome to come along, bring a chair or picnic rug, and enjoy watching the racing up close.
Events like this highlight the diversity of activities available in the Wide Bay region. Aeromodelling encourages patience, problem-solving, mechanical skills and focus qualities that can spark long-term interests in aviation, engineering and technology. For young people especially, seeing dedicated hobbyists in action can open the door to new passions and practical learning beyond the classroom.
It’s a relaxed, community-driven weekend that blends competition with connection and offers something a little different for local families.
