Slow Selfie in ImaginArts at the Gallery

Most kids and adults are used to selfies being something you take in a split second. Slow Selfie flips that idea and turns it into something you make with time to play, experiment, and create a self-portrait in a totally different way. If you’re looking for a school holiday-friendly activity that feels calm, creative, and a little bit quirky, Slow Selfie in ImaginArts is a great option. It’s the kind of drop-in experience where families can pop in, try a few activities, and leave with a fresh perspective and maybe a few laughs.
Slow Selfie is a free, interactive space running at ImaginArts inside the Bundaberg Regional Art Gallery, encouraging visitors to create unexpected self-portraits using chance, play and imagination. The idea is inspired by early 20th century artwork and the thought that before phones and cameras, “selfies” were made through drawing, painting and building. It’s open to families and makers of all ages, and you can drop in during listed session times no booking required.
The sessions shown run across multiple dates from Tuesday 17 March through to Saturday 18 April 2026, generally 9:30am–5pm on weekdays, with Saturday sessions running 10am–2pm.
Activities like this are valuable because they encourage kids to slow down and think about identity and self-expression in a gentle, playful way. It’s not about looking a certain way it’s about experimenting, trying something new, and discovering how many different ways there are to represent yourself. For parents, it can be a lovely shared experience that doesn’t require a big plan: you can visit for 20 minutes or stay longer, depending on attention spans. And because it’s in a gallery setting, it’s also a low-pressure introduction to arts spaces for kids who may not usually visit.
