The Great Botanic Gardens Scavenger Hunt

If your kids have energy to burn in the school holidays, a scavenger hunt is one of the easiest ways to turn a simple outing into an adventure. It gives kids a “mission”, keeps them moving, and helps the whole family slow down and notice what’s around them without needing screens or lots of equipment. The Great Botanic Gardens Scavenger Hunt is a relaxed, outdoor activity that suits families who enjoy exploring together and don’t mind a bit of walking while they hunt for clues.
The scavenger hunt is on Wednesday 15 April 2026, running from 9:30am to 12pm at the Bundaberg Botanic Gardens. Families can collect their scavenger hunt question sheet from the Hinkler Hall of Aviation between 9:30am and 10:30am, then head out into the gardens to search, gather items, and uncover answers along the way. There’s also a little extra motivation for keen participants: the first 200 people to return their answer sheet correctly by 12 will receive a prize.
It’s a simple set-up, but that’s what makes it work well for families. You can join in at your own pace, take breaks when you need to, and let kids lead the way. Activities like this also help build confidence and observation skills kids practise reading clues, problem-solving, and working together, while getting fresh air and a change of scenery. And because it’s held at the gardens, it’s a nice reminder that some of the best holiday activities are right in our own backyard.
A couple of practical notes: it’s free, and participants are asked to BYO pencil, so it’s worth popping one in your bag before you leave home.
