The Great Easter Eggs-Pedition at Hervey Bay Botanic Gardens

If you’re looking for a school holiday activity that gets kids moving (and doesn’t involve another screen), The Great Easter Eggs-Pedition is a lovely option. It’s the kind of outing you can do at your own pace a wander through the gardens, a few clues to solve, and plenty of moments where kids can lead the way. It also works well for mixed ages, because everyone can join in with spotting, searching and ticking things off together, even if attention spans vary.
Running through the Hervey Bay Botanic Gardens from 3–19 April 2026, this free, family-friendly trail invites families to explore 12 giant Easter eggs, each uniquely designed by local artists. The eggs are placed throughout the gardens, turning a regular walk into a bit of an adventure. Along the way, there are prompts and questions to help spark conversation and creativity between kids and their grown-ups perfect if you’re after something that feels simple, but still has a purpose.
The “how it works” is straightforward. Families start at the Orchid House, where you can collect an Eggs-Pedition passport (or download one via the HBNC website). Then it’s a matter of following the clues, finding each egg, and answering the questions hidden along the trail. Once you’ve finished, you can snap a photo of your completed passport and upload it using the QR code provided, as a fun way to mark the achievement.
There’s also a Special Opening Day on 7 April (10am–1pm), with extra activities and interactive surprises planned. Families can also look out for things like chalk art stations, selfie spots, and hands-on moments along the way. Dress-ups are encouraged too if your kids love bunny ears or costumes, this is a great excuse to bring them along.
Beyond the Easter theme, it’s a nice reminder of what the school holidays can be: time outdoors, shared experiences, and easy connection without needing to spend a lot to make a good day happen.
