1. Woodwork Wonderland: Holiday Makers Sessions – Australis Wood Studio
Woodwork Wonderland brings festive creativity to the school holidays with a series of hands-on sessions for Mini Makers, Junior Makers and Teen Makers. Running from 15–18 December and 22–23 December at Australis Wood Studio, these 1.5-hour workshops allow children and teens to build two wooden items—a Santa ornament and an age-appropriate wooden game. With real tools, real materials and real skills being taught, each session is designed to inspire confidence and creativity in a fun and supportive environment.

Mini Makers (4–7 years) create simple, colourful projects designed for little hands and gentle tool use. Junior Makers (8–12 years) step up to more detailed building and shaping, and Teen Makers (13+) tackle more complex designs requiring accuracy and creativity. Each group builds their own wooden game such as a table-top challenge, puzzle or tossing game depending on age.
The workshops are intentionally small to allow close supervision and plenty of help from trained facilitators. Children take home both completed projects, giving them something tangible to be proud of. These sessions are perfect for budding builders, creative kids and families wanting a holiday activity that is hands-on and screen-free. 2. Family Build: Billy Cart Workshop – Australis Wood Studio
The Family Build: Billy Cart Workshop offers a unique hands-on experience for families wanting to create something meaningful together these school holidays. Held at Australis Wood Studio on Saturday 10 January and Saturday 17 January, this four-hour session guides families through building a full wooden billy cart from scratch using real tools, quality timber and expert support from skilled makers. With only four family groups per workshop, the experience is intentionally intimate, relaxed and designed to build confidence, connection and creativity.

Families of 2 to 4 participants will work together to measure, cut, assemble and personalise their own billy cart using safe, guided steps from experienced instructors. Everything is supplied—timber, tools, equipment, safety gear, paints and finishing materials—ensuring families can simply show up and enjoy the process. With encouragement and support on hand, children can safely use real tools and experience the satisfaction of building something solid and functional.
Each session ends with an optional family-friendly billy cart race, adding excitement and a chance to celebrate teamwork. A light meal, drinks and sweet treats from a local café are included, helping create a warm and enjoyable atmosphere.
