The Bundaberg Horse and Pony Club is set to host the 2023 Pony Club Queensland State Show Jumping Championships from Sunday 2 April to Wednesday 5 April. This will be the first time the club has hosted the event, and it is expected to attract around 300 competitors from across Queensland and New South Wales, along with their families and supporters.
Competitors will be divided into age and height groups and will compete over four days to determine the best combinations in Queensland. The age range of the competitors will be from under 12 to 25 years old, and they may jump up to heights of 140 cm. Around 30 local competitors are expected to participate, along with a dozen more from the Burnett region, making a total of at least 800 people in attendance.
The event will feature a range of competitions, including jumping equitation, where riders and horses will be judged on their style and technique while jumping over a round of show jumps with seven different height classes up to one metre. The last two days of the event will feature show jumping, where riders and horses will compete in three different types of jumping rounds. This competition will have different height classes, with the maximum height being 1.40 metres. The competition will culminate in a mounted presentation in the centre ring of the precinct.
Additionally, the event will include a category called Life After Racing, which will showcase the highest performing off-the-track thoroughbred in each class and discipline. This category will highlight retired racehorses owned and ridden by pony club members, with sponsorship provided by the Queensland Off The Track program.
