Bundaberg Day Stay Unit
Local charity, Bundaberg Health Services Foundation has provided funding for the set up of the Bundaberg Day Stay Unit, a new service aimed at helping babies and their carers. The Bundaberg Day Stay Unit will provides one-on-one assistance in the management of sleep, feeding and general parenting issues.
The Bundaberg Day Stay Unit will fill the gap that currently exists with no similar facility available locally. The closest clinic is the Ellen Barron Centre in Brisbane. Attending this centre involves a six to eight week wait as well as suffering the impacts of family separation, and the cost and disruption to routine which can further affect sleep and feeding patterns.
The objective of the Bundaberg Day Stay Unit is to address sleep, nutrition and parenting issues closer to home. By having this facility in Bundaberg it will ensure the family unit is kept together, and will increase support systems. It will also mean that the Bundaberg Day Stay Unit will be able to promote a secure attachment between the infant and their carer.
The Unit will have families attend for the day and teach them how to identify issues, show the carer ways to help the infant and to educate the carer with further information on what is age appropriate. They will also discuss the normal expectations and limitations a carer should have and work on building confidence in the carers child raising abilities.
The Unit aims to set up strategies that the carer can use after attending the clinic and to follow-up with further support from the Unit should it be required.
You can can access this service through your GP by referral or by visiting the Community Family Health Clinic.
