The Best Easter Egg Hunts for kids
The Best Easter Egg Hunts for kids
We absolutely love Easter egg hunts………and not the good old traditional variety either. Our top 3 favourite reinvented egg hunt ideas include a treasure hunt, a hanging hide and seek hunt and a clue by clue hunt. Keep reading for detailed instructions on how you can enjoy these hunts at your place this Easter.
Easter Egg Hunt Ideas for Kids
1. Treasure Hunt
What you need:
- Coloured pencils
- Easter Eggs or other objects to hide
What you do:
- Hide your Easter eggs or objects
- Draw a map with picture clues and the number of eggs in each location.
- Leave a basket for each child with their treasure map.
2. Hanging Hide and Seek Hunt
What you need:
- Plastic Easter Eggs that have a string attached
- Basket for each child
What you do:
- Go outside and hang the eggs at eye height or below in places like on the swings, in the garden on plants or other play equipment, on chairs, anywhere outside in the garden. If it’s raining this can be easily done inside.
- Send the children outside with their baskets to find and collect all the eggs.
- When all the eggs have been collected get the kids to hide them and you have a go at finding them.
- This is a really great activity and we have had hours of fun with it over the years. Also works well with Christmas Decorations at Christmas time.
3. Clue by Clue Easter Egg Hunt
My kids absolutely love this. There are three ways to deliver this activity – verbally, written clues or through the use of visual clues. We have a post HERE on how to make visual cue cards.
In this egg hunt you give your child oral, written or visual clues one at a time. Each clue leads them to where they will find the next clue and so forth.
What you need:
- a major prize or Easter egg
- paper and pencil
- visual clues if using them
- small eggs or prizes for along the way but not necessary
What you do:
- Hide the major prize.
- Working backwards from this prize, write each clue as you go. Take your paper and write a clue that will lead you to where the major prize is i.e. ‘I’m in the dryer’.
- Take that clue and hide it in another location, i.e. the fridge. Take your paper again and write a clue that will lead to the fridge i.e. “it’s really cold in here”…………and continue on until you think you have enough clues. HINT do as many clues as you can stand the kids get such a rush out of this game. If your child cannot read you can replace written clues with visual cards and with verbal clues you might like to have something at each station the children have to collect such as a button.
- You can also hide little eggs or prizes along the way if you like. To begin hand the first clue over………or perhaphs the Easter bunny could leave it for them!
- The kids then rush from clue to clue until they find the last one and the major prize.
Share your Easter Egg Hunt Ideas!
I really can’t tell you just how much fun this is. I love making it every year for the kids. I do something similar at Christmas time as well.
