Fireworks, lantern parade and more to celebrate Chinese New Year
Chinese New Year festivities, celebrating the Year of the Pig are happening in Bundaberg this weekend!
A celebration of culture will light up parts of the Bundaberg CBD for Chinese New Year on Saturday, 16 February.
Buss Park and sections of Bourbong Street come alive with entertainment, colour and culture for the Year of the Pig; representing luck, overall good fortune, wealth, honesty and general prosperity.
The event will host an array of fantastic performances, delicious food and fun for the whole community to enjoy. There will be activities for all ages including:-
- Kids Zodiac Animal Trail – a treasure hunt themed activity. The trail includes 12 stations that each represent an animal in the Chinese Zodiac. Children can complete an activity at each station to get a stamp in their passport. Once all 12 activities are completed, the stamped passport can be returned to the Zodiac Trail station in front of the Moncrieff Entertainment Centre to collect a prize. Trail begins at 3pm and runs til 5:30pm
- Dragon dancing
- Food and market stalls
- Traditional Chinese tea ceremony
- CQUniversity’s Chinese Cultural Concert, featuring performances from Nanning artists, with shows commencing at 4pm, 5pm, 6pm and 7pm in the Moncrieff Entertainment Centre.
- Lantern parade featuring a dazzling display of lanterns illuminating the main street commencing at 8.15pm.
- Culminating in an amazing array of crackers and fireworks at 8.45pm!
