Bundaberg’s Mystery Reading Eggs Growing
Bundaberg’s Mystery Reading Eggs Growing
The two mystery eggs discovered by the Rangers at Mon Repos in June are growing every day.
Bundaberg Regional Libraries, Community Services Librarian Sue Gammon has been watching over the eggs. She says it has been exciting to see Bundaberg’s mystery reading eggs growing. They are getting larger and heavier every day. Sue wonders just how big the eggs will grow by hatching day which is calculated to be August 22. This date coincides with the Dad’s Read Launch event and the start of Book Week 2016. Sue said it was going to be a very busy time to welcome the surprise hatchlings into our community.
Ultrasound of eggs
Midwife, Klare Craven-Hughes, from Embrace Midwifery is monitoring the eggs and says the children of Bundaberg have been taking great care of them. Klare performs regular check-ups on the eggs and says they have more than doubled in size since they were discovered.
Where the eggs have been
The Eggs have been visiting local schools, child care centres, kindy’s and community places giving lots of children the opportunity to read, rhyme and sing to them. Every time the eggs are read to, talked to, sung to: they grow and are one step closer to hatching. Read more about how the eggs were discovered here.
What’s inside the eggs?
The children of the Bundaberg region all agree that there is something growing inside the eggs. Some children have suggested there may be a giraffe, a monkey or even a dinosaur. Children have also reported the eggs moving and being warm to touch.
Paint Bundy REaD
Paint Bundy REaD is an early literacy community project that aims to have the whole community reading, talking, singing, rhyming, drawing, yarning and moving with children from birth, so they’ll be ready for reading and writing at school. Currently the Bundaberg region’s early language and literacy results are one of the poorest in Queensland. Many of our local children are presenting to prep classes not ready to start reading. Countless numbers of children in our community have never had the joy of picking up a book, being read to or experiencing special reading time with their parents.
Paint Bundy REaD is a 10 year early language and literacy initiative which plans to turn these statistics around. It will be the glue that brings together a number of local projects including First 5 Forever, Dad’s Read, One Book One Bundy and various FAB (Bundaberg Family & Baby Network) projects.
