Six Online Marketing Tips for Event Managers

Six Online Marketing Tips for Event Managers
When I first started as an Event Manager back in 2005 there was not a lot of information around about online marketing for events. A lot has changed over the last 10 years including the explosion of social media and inbound marketing.

I created this infographic as a way to help event managers promote their events and engage with their audiences online. I WISH someone had shared this stuff with me when I first started!
1.Reach your participants where they spend their time…..online
Are you event participants likely to hang out on Facebook or do they spend more time on Instagram? Research your participant market and know where they spend their time. Invest your marketing dollars in that platform.
2. Promote your event through established online event calendars
If you have an established event you’ll be lucky in that people will know your event is coming up. They will be anticipating your media campaigns in search of information. But where do people go when they are looking for new events or things to do? Or if they are new to your region? Adding your event to established online event calendar ensures people searching google for events in their local area will see you. Most local Councils and news sites have event listings. 3. Create pod casts and videos featuring your entertainers or speakers. Leverage them everywhere – on social media, news sites and blogs
Build momentum and create excitement around your event by sharing with your audience snippets of the entertainment available or speakers presenting. Include as much information as possible so every question you think may be asked is answered. Why would someone want to attend your event? What will attract them? Use technology to deliver these messages informatively and creatively.
4. Share you media releases with online bloggers. Website owners need content, give it to them
Share your event with as many websites as possible. Contact website owners and ask them to share your event information. Create editorial content for website owners including videos, photos and podcasts. The more interesting you make your event content, the more likely it will be published by website owners. It’s important to have your event shared online in this way. The more creditable websites that are publishing your event information, the better chance you have of people seeing it. Email us your media releases and we will publish them – it’s free.
5. Make social sharing of your event easy. Ensure you have social sharing buttons on your website and on the websites you advertise your event on
Ensure your audience can easily share your event with their friends and family. When advertising your event on websites, ensure a share button is installed so people can easily invite others to participate. Ensure you have a suitable social share image and meta data written into the sharing code so friends and family can easily and understand what’s being shared.
6. Create an email database and connect with your subscribers at least monthly. Advertise your event through other established email lists.
Keep in touch with your audience by emailing them and sharing information about your event. Build anticipation and create excitement by sharing exclusive news. Promote your event through established newsletters. Schools often allow advertising in their newsletters. Email us and we will include your event in our monthly E-Newsletter.
