"Junction", noun.

Refers to a point where two or more things meet or come together. It can describe a physical location where roads or rivers intersect, or it can represent a figurative meeting point of ideas, paths, or connections.

In a more abstract sense, "junction" can describe a place or situation where different elements or aspects come together to form a connection or unity. For example, in this case "youth junction"  symbolises a space where young people can come together for shared experiences and opportunities.

Teen Junction is a community-led initiative that caters to the needs of young people in Bundaberg.

The aim of this initiative is to engage and advocate young individuals, aged 12 to 17 years, providing connection, support and a strong local voice to express ideas and perspectives.

By combining engagement and advocacy approaches, it is believed that authentic and mutually advantageous youth participation can be attained. The Teen Junction model fosters genuine connections with young individuals, empowering them to express their perspectives, amplifying their voices, and ensuring their input significantly influences decision-making processes.

We (Wide Bay Kids) are actively seeking opportunities to connect with young people, supporting them to express their ideas and views on teen experiences in the Bundaberg Region.  

So far teens have told us they want:-

• Opportunities to spend time with friends in social settings during the day and evenings of school holidays.
• Someone to listen to their ideas and views.
• Low or no cost recreation activities after school and during school holidays.
• Recreation activities with no commitment to attend.

We are already working on some very exciting new projects that will be available for teens to participate in.  These include:-

• School holiday teen space (think, recreational drop-in centre)
• Learn to be a entrepreneur, create your own business workshops
• How to spend your money wisely workshops
