The Gin Gin Reading Hunt
The Gin Gin Reading Hunt
The Gin Gin Reading Hunt has been launched in time for the school holidays and will be a fun activity to do with your kids while exploring Gin Gin.
The Reading Hunt has been created to encourage families to spend time together, talking, reading, singing and playing. It's a project financed by First 5 Forever which is an initiative of the Queensland Government through State Library of Queensland.
The Hunt invites families to enjoy simple activities in local parks and attractions in Gin Gin, including the local library. The activities are aimed at families with children 5 and under, however can be enjoyed by children of all ages.
Families can discover six little signs at nine different locations in Gin Gin and increase early literacy skills in their children.
FIND THE SIGN THAT IDENTIFIES COLOURS
Identify the colours together before moving on to the next hunt location.
FIND THE SIGN WHICH CONTAINS A SONG
Sing the song together before moving on to the next hunt location.
At each location of the Reading Hunt there is a sign which invites you to visit the library and read one of the Reading Hunt books. These books are available at Gin Gin, Childers and Bundaberg Libraries. Just ask for the Reading Hunt books.
While you are out on the Reading Hunt see if you can find some Reading Hunt Rocks! Have a look at the picture on the rock. What is it? What colour is it? What letter does it start with? Does it remind you of a song or a sound?
