Bundaberg Model Railway Club Open Day

The Bundaberg Model Railway Club Inc. Open Day is a free community event for families who enjoy trains, miniature worlds and seeing detailed layouts in action.
Held at the old showgrounds in Bundaberg, the open day gives visitors the chance to see model railways up close, talk with club members and learn more about the hobby. It’s a simple, family-friendly outing that can suit a wide range of ages, from young children who love watching trains go by to adults who enjoy the detail, craft and planning behind each layout.
The event will be held on Saturday 8 August 2026 from 9am-3pm. Entry is free, and on-site parking will be available via the Kensington Street entrance, about 50 metres from Walker Street.
On the day, there will be six club layouts and two very small-scale private layouts running for visitors to enjoy. Club members will be available to welcome families, answer questions and share more about how the layouts work. Visitors will also be able to see the club’s new N scale DCC layout, which is still under construction and has developed further since the last open day.
Model railway displays can be a lovely activity for families because they encourage curiosity, observation and conversation. Children often enjoy following the trains around the track, spotting small details and asking how everything works. For adults, it can be a chance to appreciate the patience, creativity and technical skill involved in building and running model railways.
Community open days like this also help keep local clubs visible and active. They give families a chance to meet people with shared interests, support a local volunteer group and enjoy a low-cost outing close to home.
