DIY Coloured Pasta and Rice for sensory tubs

DIY Coloured Pasta and Rice for sensory tubs
Coloured pasta and rice is so easy to make and so much fun to use in many craft activities. Pasta tubes can be used to make beautiful homemade necklaces. Simply thread the pasta tubes onto string or wool. Coloured rice is fabulous in sensory boxes, just add small objects and go on a treasure hunt to find them! Or use the coloured rice in place of sand or water for indoor/outdoor play tables.
What you need:
- Rice – I used long grain
- Tube pasta – I used three different shaped pasta tubes
- Vinegar
- Food colouring
- Clip seal bags
- Baking paper
What you need:
Coloured Rice
- 1 tablespoon of vinegar
- 1 cup rice
Coloured Pasta
- 1 teaspoon of vinegar
- 3/4 cup of pasta
What you do
Add your vinegar to the clip seal bag and enough food colouring to get the desired colour.
Add your rice or pasta to the bag and seal. Combine the contents until all the rice/pasta is coated in the vinegar/food colouring mixture.
Leave the contents of the bag to sit for about 10 minutes.
Open bag and place the contents on baking trays lined with baking paper. I left mine to dry overnight.
Once completely dried store in an airtight container.
