LEGO, Robotics and Drones – Hands-On Winter School Holiday Workshops for Kids

Winter School holidays can be a great time for kids to try something practical, especially if they enjoy building, problem-solving or figuring out how things work. CQUniversity Bundaberg Makerspace is running a series of school holiday workshops focused on LEGO, robotics and drones, giving children a chance to learn through hands-on activities. These sessions are designed for kids who like to make, test, build and explore ideas in a fun, structured environment without needing to already be an expert.
The workshops are suitable for children aged 8 to 16 years and will run across two dates at CQUniversity Bundaberg Makerspace. Each workshop costs $25 per child, and bookings are essential.
On Tuesday 30 June, children can join LEGO Robotics: Amusement Park from 10am to 11:30am, followed by Robot Mania from 12:30pm to 2pm. On Thursday 2 July, there will be Drones (Basics) Level 1 from 10:00am to 11:30am, followed by Drones (Advanced) Level 2 from 12:30pm to 2:00pm.
Each session is designed to support creativity and practical skills through making, building, designing and experimenting.
Workshops like this are helpful because they give children the chance to learn by doing. Robotics and drones can sound technical, but at this level the focus is on curiosity, problem-solving and confidence. Kids get to test ideas, make mistakes, adjust their approach and try again all useful skills that support learning well beyond the workshop.
For families, these sessions also offer a school holiday option that blends fun with skill-building. Children who enjoy technology, construction, coding-style thinking or creative challenges may find it especially rewarding. It’s also a good way for kids to meet others with similar interests and spend time in a learning space that encourages exploration.
