Makerspace at Bundaberg Library
What thoughts dance inside the head of a four-year-old? What creative ideas and visions await to be unleashed from the idle musings of a teenager? The creativity of young minds can be harnessed, channeled and expressed through Makerspace, an exciting new initiative at Bundaberg Regional Libraries.
Libraries Operational Supervisor David Cornwell said Makerspace gave kids aged 4 – 14 access to new or classic technologies to invent, design, create, build, learn and try. “Makerspace is about firing imaginations and providing learning opportunities through technology, tools and materials that participants may not otherwise have access to,” David said.
“We will be encouraging kids to get creative with lego and have some fun with our extremely popular sphero and ozobot robots which have basic and more advanced functionalities to teach computer coding. To really get the kids thinking, we will have them putting together a computer from parts and turning inventor with our MaKey MaKey invention kits.
David said the library would also take the opportunity to launch its new 3D printer so participants could see the technology in action. The Makerspace event perfectly mirrors our library ethos to provide resources and support to our community and to promote opportunities to further digital literacy.
The Makerspace event will be held on Wednesday, April 13 between 4 and 6pm. The event is free to attend and bookings are encouraged but not essential. To register your interest in attending, contact the library on 4130 4140. Makerspace is aimed at kids aged 4 – 14 and all attendees must be accompanied by an adult.
