Take the Plunge Community Cafe

Take the Plunge Community Cafe
After five years of community service work with Carers in Bundaberg, new cafe owners, Justine Halpin and Beth Boorer recognised the need for the community to have access to somewhere quiet and private to hold social and support groups.
In response to this need, Justine and Beth have opened a community cafe where coffee machine noise has become a thing of the past. Instead of competing with a coffee machine over conversation, people can enjoy the experience of plunging their own coffee or tea whilst indulging in a range of gourmet cookies that include rum’n’raisin; strawberries & cream; orange & poppyseed and ginger, to name a few.
The cafe is designed to include all members of the community. A large mural, painted by local artist Lianne Cook is the backdrop for a secure play zoo where children can be engaged whilst their parents/guardians enjoy a cup of tea or coffee. The play zoo will include a sensory board for younger/special needs children and a ‘time out’ step for those who need some space.
Community groups no longer need to look for the perfect balance between social inclusion and private space when holding support groups. Our purpose built meeting room can comfortably accommodate twenty people and the doors can be closed for privacy or left open for inclusion of other patrons in the cafe. There will be no fee for using the meeting room but with bookings already being taken, pre-booking is essential.
Through conversations with other community services, Take the Plunge Community Cafe will also feature a notice board where people can offer their time to help others and where others who are looking for help can advertise their need. These conversations have also resulted in the formation of a social group for young teens with a disability who are looking to make real connections with others in the hope of advancing their independent living skills. This and many other special interest groups will be a focus of Take the Plunge Community Cafe group booking calendar.
Our goal is to create a space where all members of the community can feel at home. From choosing your own coffee mug to relaxing in the vintage lounge, we invite all Bundy residents and community groups to come and say hello.
Take the Plunge Community Cafe is loacated in the Electra Court Complex at 17 Electra Street, Bundaberg. For further information check out their Facebook page
