Bundaberg free wifi rolled out
Bundaberg free wifi rolled out – The Bundaberg Regional Council have this morning continued their roll-out of free public wifi across the region.
A number of our region’s parks and public spaces now had freely available internet access under the SwitchedOnBRC initiative.
“Residents can now connect to Council’s public wifi through mobile devices and laptops in defined locations in Bundaberg, Gin Gin, Childers and Bargara under the switched on program,” Cr Blackburn said.
A number of these hotspots, including Council’s libraries and neighbourhood centres, also provide access to public computers, free of charge.
Offering free public wifi means everyone in our community, no matter their circumstances, has an opportunity to access important services and information provided online. It will also prove a draw card for visitors to our region wishing to access information about facilities and attractions.
Mayor Jack Dempsey said the CCTV technology recently deployed across the region as part of the Safer Bundaberg CCTV project was supported by Council’s wifi infrastructure.
“Basically what that means is the technology is already there for Council to rollout public wifi anywhere in the Bundaberg CBD where CCTV infrastructure is already installed,” Cr Dempsey said.
“Over coming months, Council will install the access points for public wifi connection which will enable internet access throughout the CBD from a distance of up to 100m from the CCTV infrastructure.”
Council wants to play a leading role in the region’s digital transformation and allow everyone, whether they be residents, businesses or visitors, the opportunity to leverage from these enhanced digital capabilities.
“Government and business services are being increasingly offered online and it is important we provide our residents with the tools to engage and connect.”
