Childers Festival Operatic Workshops

WORKSHOPS TO PROVIDE PERFORMANCE SKILLS FOR REGION’S SINGERS

High school students and residents from across the region have been invited to participate in an operatic workshop as part of this year’s Childers Festival, culminating in live performances during the festival featuring Opera Queensland artists.

Council’s Community Services portfolio spokesperson Cr Judy Peters said each year local students and community members were encouraged to get involved with the festival through performing arts workshops.

We’re thrilled to have OperaQ on board this year both to host Open Stage workshops for the region’s residents and to perform during the festival, Cr Peters said.  This will give the workshop students the opportunity to learn valuable skills from our state’s most experienced and talented singers, musicians and directors before showing off their new-found skills on stage.

The workshops are designed to connect participants with the power of creative expression and the emotion of human voice.

Cr Peters said the workshops would culminate in live performances by OperaQ artists and workshop participants at 12.30pm on Sunday, July 26 at the Isis Cultural Centre and a ticketed performance at Opera by the Lake at 3pm on Saturday, July 25.

Opera by the Lake will be a wonderful operatic performance in the beautiful natural setting of Lake Redbrook Holiday Retreat, 10km north of Childers.  This outdoor concert will include a host of opera favourites and is a must-see event for anyone with a love for music and our beautiful region.

The OperaQ workshops were made possible through Queensland Government Community Drought Support funding.

When:  Tuesday, July 21 to Friday, July 24

Where:  The theatre room at TAFE East Coast Bundaberg.
