Community BBQ – Free for the Whole Community

Looking for a free, relaxed way to connect with your local community? The Community BBQ at Childers Neighbourhood Centre is inviting everyone to come along for a free community lunch and a chance to meet local staff, learn more about the project and discover what is happening in the community.
The next BBQ will be held on Thursday 3 September 2026 from 11:30am to 12:30pm at the Childers Neighbourhood Centre, 69 Churchill Street, Childers. With the cost of living continuing to put pressure on families and households, the community is being invited to take the day off from cooking and enjoy a free lunch together. There is no need to RSVP simply come along and enjoy the BBQ.
The event also provides an opportunity to engage with staff and find out more about the project, including what is coming up in the local community. It’s a chance to have a chat, ask questions, meet others and connect with people working to support the local community. Families, individuals and community members are welcome to attend. Whether you are dropping in for lunch, interested in finding out more about the project or simply looking for an opportunity to connect with others, everyone is welcome.
The BBQ can also be a useful opportunity for people who may not regularly get the chance to connect with local community services. A friendly shared meal provides a simple way to meet people and learn about what is available locally. The Community BBQ will continue throughout the year, with additional dates scheduled for Thursday 1 October, Thursday 5 November and Thursday 3 December 2026, all from 11:30am to 12:30pm.
The initiative is proudly funded by Foodbank through the Feeding Queensland Kids grant.
