Australian Wearable Art Festival Bundaberg

A Wearable Canvas brings a selection of remarkable wearable art pieces from the Australian Wearable Art Festival (AWAF) to Bundaberg Regional Art Gallery, giving visitors the chance to see these intricate works up close. The exhibition features winning pieces from previous AWAF showcases, highlighting the creativity and craftsmanship behind wearable art.
The Australian Wearable Art Festival is an annual celebration of wearable art held on the Sunshine Coast, and 2026 marks its sixth year. The festival provides a platform for designers and artists to experiment with form, structure, texture and colour, often using unusual materials to create works that challenge the traditional ideas of art and fashion. The exhibition brings together pieces where art, science, fashion and technology come together through unexpected combinations of materials. Visitors can take a closer look at the intricate details, techniques and creative ideas behind these wearable artworks in a dedicated gallery setting. The collection represents the diversity of AWAF categories, including Trashion, Sustainable Nature, Avant-Garde and Floriana, and features works recognised as some of the best wearable art from Australia and internationally.
Among the featured works is The Lotus Queen and the Oil Merchant by Kym Cuningham, which was the 2025 Avant-Garde Winner. A Wearable Canvas is being presented in Gallery One at Bundaberg Regional Art Gallery, providing an opportunity for visitors to experience these unusual and imaginative works in person. The exhibition is open across several days, with weekday sessions from 9:30am-5pm and a Saturday session from 10am-2pm.
