Dads, Lads and Mates: Conversations That Matter

Being a good dad, a supportive mate or a positive role model isn't always something that gets talked about openly, especially among men. A new community event in Bundaberg is aiming to change that, bringing fathers, sons and mates together over a free feed to have a genuine conversation about it.

Dads, Lads and Mates: Conversations That Matter is on Tuesday 6 October at the Bundaberg Civic Centre, hosted by Bundaberg Regional Council in partnership with the Queensland Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Council, the Bundaberg DFV Free Matters to Me Community Group and Edon Place. The evening kicks off with a free BBQ from 6pm, followed by guided conversations exploring what it means to be a good man, a supportive mate, a positive role model or a great dad. It's open to dads, stepdads, grandfathers, uncles, coaches, mentors, sons and mates, and is recommended for ages 13 and over. The event wraps up by 8pm, and registration is essential.

Events like this offer a chance for men and boys to hear from each other in an environment, and unpack what healthy relationships actually look like. For families, particularly those with teenage sons, it's a straightforward way to open up conversations that don't always come easily at home, while connecting with other local blokes doing the same. Getting a group of mates together to go along could make the evening even more worthwhile.
