Easter in the Gardens: An Accessible and Inclusive Event
Easter in the Gardens at the Bundaberg Botanic Gardens is more than just an Easter Egg Hunt—it’s a fully inclusive experience designed to ensure that everyone, regardless of ability, can take part in the fun. Wide Bay Kids is committed to making the event as accessible as possible, with features that support mobility, sensory, and vision needs.
Whether you're navigating the gardens with a wheelchair, require assistance from an assistance animal, or benefit from audio descriptions, this event has been planned with inclusivity in mind.
Accessibility Features at Easter in the Gardens
♿ Step-Free Access Throughout the Gardens
The Bundaberg Botanic Gardens offer a network of paved, step-free pathways to ensure smooth access to key areas of the event. Whether you're exploring the Easter Egg Hunt trail, stopping by the Nature Playground, or enjoying the picnic spaces, the gardens provide a welcoming and accessible environment.
🚗 Accessible Parking & Drop-Off Zones
Dedicated accessible parking spaces are available at the Nature Playground near the Mount Perry Road entrance and at the Thornhill Street entrance near Fairymead House. If you’re arriving by car but don’t require parking, there are also accessible drop-off points for easier entry into the event.
🐾 Assistance Animals Welcome
Visitors with assistance animals can comfortably enjoy Easter in the Gardens. There are grassy areas throughout the gardens for toileting, as well as drinking water stations available along the pathways. Handlers are responsible for their animals, but the event space provides a relaxed and accommodating environment.
🔊 Audio Descriptions for Visitors with Low or No Vision
To create an inclusive experience for those with vision impairments, the Easter Egg Hunt will feature audio descriptions. By scanning QR codes along the walking trail, visitors can access narrated descriptions of each egg’s design and location. This ensures that everyone can engage with the event in a meaningful way.
🚻 Accessible Toilets
The event site includes multiple accessible toilet facilities, ensuring comfort and ease of access. These are located at Café 1928, Hinkler Hall of Aviation, and Fairymead House, with features such as grab rails, roll-under sinks, and lever-handled taps to accommodate different mobility needs.
🚋 Mobility-Friendly Transport Options
Visitors can access the event using public transport, taxis, or shuttle services.
- Public transport: Routes 607 and 621 service Bundaberg North, stopping near the Botanic Gardens.
- Wheelchair-accessible taxis: 13CABS offers pre-bookable wheelchair-accessible taxis with hydraulic lifts and anchor points.
