Everything you need to know and what to take to Monster Trucks
I’ve just come back from Carina Speedway where I got a glimpse at what is in store for those of us who will be attending Monster Trucks on Saturday. OMG they’re so big and not as noisy as I thought! Here is my list of everything you need to know and what to take to Monster Trucks on Saturday.
Parking – there is lots of parking, it’s in a huge paddock that fronts the speedway and there will be volunteers directing traffic. The paddock has just been slashed so it’s going to be hard to walk on and probably hard to push a pram, but once you get out of the car park paddock you will be able to walk on the dirt road into the speedway.
Seating – gold class will be seated on plastic chairs as shown above. The rest of us will be sitting on the hills although there is one other small grandstand but I can’t imagine it will be free for long! There are two hills to choose from that are mostly grass but in some areas are just dirt. I’m not really sure how folding chairs will go given the slopes but you will definitely need a blanket to sit on and if I can be bothered I might bring a cushion as well.
Toilets – there are lots of toilets with porta loos being scattered throughout the event.
Food – there will be plenty of food and drinks available for purchase. There are two permanent food buildings and food vans will be stationed throughout the event. There is one bar, it’s the white building and all alcohol must be consumed within 20 metres of it. You can bring your own food and drinks, but no alcohol or glass.
Ear Plugs – You can buy these from one of the merchandise stands for $2 and they are the small spongy type that you insert into your ears, so not really suitable for small children. Maybe bring a pair of head phones if you can’t find anything else. Perhaps one of the safety shop’s in town may have something more appropriate for small children.
Rides and Merchandise Stands – yes there will be rides for the kids and there will be a merchandise stand. The promoter did not have any information on how much rides would be.
Prams – The ground is mainly rough dirt so if you don’t have a pram with pump up tyres it might be pretty hard pushing. Depending on how far back you are parked it might be easier pushing a pram than trying to carry kids and all your stuff.
Pit Pass – if you have a pit pass, (and all those who have prepurchased tickets do) you get early entry into the grounds. This will be at approximately 1:45 pm instead of 2:30 pm, this does not mean you gain earlier pit access though. A pit pass allows you access to the drivers and to get close up to the trucks and support attractions. The pit area opens at 2:30 pm for one hour prior to the show.
How to Get there – Head out along Goodwood Road past Alloway Country Club to Alex Walker Road. It’s a dirt road and there is a Carina Speedway sign at the entrance. Follow the dirt road until you reach another Carina Speedway sign and you have reached the car park paddock.
Gates Open: approximately 1:45 pm for prepurchased ticket holders and 2:30 pm for the rest
Show Starts: 3:30 pm
Fireworks: 6:15 pm
Show Ends: 6:30 pm
Okay, so I think that is everything you need to know now here is a:
List of what I think you need to take:
- A torch, it is going to be dark when you have to walk back to the car and you’ll be walking on really rough unfamiliar ground.
- A blanket, chairs, or cushions if you don’t have gold class tickets.
- Hats and sunnies many of you are going to be looking into the afternoon sun when the show is on.
- Food and drinks if you don’t like waiting in lines or you want to save some dollars.
- Wet wipes it is very dusty and dry out there.
- Jumpers and warmer clothes for when the sun goes down.
- The pram if you have lots of stuff and or kids to juggle.
Anyone got anything else to add to this list?
If you don’t have your tickets yet you can get them online HERE or a Autobarn.
Only 3 sleeps to go! My DS7 is super excited and I have to admit I’m getting a little bit excited about taking him to. See you there.
