Bundaberg PCYC offers a variety of programs aimed at engaging and supporting young people through skill-building activities, mentorship, and community connection. Below are the details of each program:
Braking the Cycle (BTC)
📍 Location: PCYC Bundaberg
BTC helps young people complete their 100 supervised driving hours needed for their learner’s permit to gain a provisional driver’s license. Since 2020, over 70 participants have successfully obtained their licenses.
CHAMP (Boxing)
📍 Location: PCYC Bundaberg
⏰ Time: Every Wednesday, 3:30 PM – 5 PM
CHAMP (Channelling Healthy Aggression Mentoring Project) uses boxing to encourage better life choices. This program connects young people with positive role models, including police officers, to foster growth, support, and stronger school and community ties. Suitable for ages 12-18.
Drop-In Basketball
📍 Location: PCYC Bundaberg
⏰ Time: Every Friday, 3 PM – 5 PM
Drop-In Basketball provides a safe place for young people to participate in free, fun activities. It’s a weekly opportunity for socializing, recreation, and positive engagement after school hours.
AFTER DARK (Touch Footy / BBQ in the Park)
📍 Location: Walla St Skate Park
⏰ Time: Every Thursday, 5:30 PM – 7 PM
This free, sports-based program targets youth experiencing disengagement from community, family, or school. Held at the Walla St Skate Park, AFTER DARK offers a BBQ dinner and a chance to pass the football, aiming to increase engagement and break down barriers.
TEAM UP
📍 Location: North Primary School
⏰ Time: Every Tuesday
TEAM UP provides structured activities to build social and life skills among students in Grades 5 to 9. Through hour-long sessions over eight weeks, this program fosters positive relationships with school staff and peers, with support from local police to build trust with the community.
RUBY (Rise Up, Be Yourself)
📍 Location: PCYC Bundaberg
RUBY is a free fitness program supporting women who are experiencing or have experienced Domestic and Family Violence. It offers physical exercise, emotional resilience, and companionship in a safe environment, with the added benefit of support from QPS officers.
Duke of Edinburgh Award Program
📍 Location: PCYC Bundaberg
⏰ Time: Every Friday, 6 PM – 8 PM
For ages 14-24, the Duke of Edinburgh Award program brings together practical life skills and a sense of accomplishment. Led by a volunteer and supported by the Youth Coordinator, this program fosters resilience, community engagement, and personal growth.
Cadet Club
📍 Location: PCYC Bundaberg
⏰ Time: Every Thursday, 4 PM – 5 PM
Cadet Club is for children ages 5-12, focusing on building emotional intelligence and community connections. Activities include yarning circles, arts and crafts, and physical activities, creating a safe place for learning, growth, and belonging.
Additional Programs for 2025
Youth Leadership Team (YLT)
📍 Location: PCYC Bundaberg
YLT is an ongoing youth development program for young people looking to strengthen their skills in a supportive environment. The Social Impact Coordinator/Youth Development Officer leads the program, providing a space for growth, community involvement, and pathway development. Expressions of Interest are open.
Bundaberg PCYC First Nations Program
📍 Location: PCYC Bundaberg
🗓️ Dates: Starts February 26, 2024
⏰ Time: Wednesdays and Fridays, 3:45 PM – 5:15 PM
This initiative runs over two school terms in 2024. Local schools nominate participants, with selected youth attending the Bunburra Touch Football Competition on June 14. Participants must maintain a 90% school attendance rate, engage in community sports, and meet behavioral expectations for the program’s duration.
