The Nutcracker Royal Ballet Screening at the Moncrieff

For many families, The Nutcracker is as much a part of Christmas as the tree and the carols. This December, the Moncrieff Entertainment Centre is screening the Royal Ballet's production on the big screen, giving Bundaberg audiences a chance to see a world-class performance without leaving town.
The Nutcracker | Royal Ballet Screening is on Saturday 19 December 2026 from 2pm to 4:20pm. The story follows a young girl, Clara, who meets the mysterious magician Drosselmeyer at a Christmas party and receives a nutcracker doll as a gift. Later that night, he takes her on a journey through snowy landscapes and sweet-filled lands where toys come to life. The production is by Peter Wright, set to Tchaikovsky's orchestral score and performed by the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House, with designs by Julia Trevelyan Oman. It was filmed live at Covent Garden, London, on 10 December 2025, and tickets are available through the Moncrieff.
A screening like this is a relaxed way to introduce children to ballet and live orchestral music, with a familiar story that's easy to follow. The Saturday afternoon timing suits families, and it gives older relatives, kids and ballet fans a shared outing during the Christmas lead-up. For many, it can become a small annual tradition, and a nice change from the usual rush of the season. Even for those who haven't watched ballet before, a well-known tale and plenty of colour and music make it an approachable place to start.
