Watch the sunset or sunrise
The Hummock Lookout
Turners Way, The Hummock
Details
Located along the road to Bargara, you'll find "The Hummock," a low-lying volcanic remnant that offers visitors panoramic views of the surrounding area, despite its modest height of only 96 meters above sea level. From this vantage point, you can marvel at the vastness of the ocean to the east, while to the west, the city is embraced by lush sugar fields, with the distinctive smoke stacks of the Bundaberg Distillery and Mill gracing the horizon. As the sun sets over the land, you can witness the moon gracefully rising above the ocean.
In addition to its scenic beauty, The Hummock holds great significance in the history of the local indigenous people, the Taribelang Bunda Aboriginal community. They were the first inhabitants of this region and referred to it as 'Woongarra' (pronounced one-garra). The 'Sloping Hummock' we know today was once their sacred 'burning mountain.' At the site, there is a remarkable Aboriginal art mural that vividly portrays the turbulent tale of Paddys Island during the time of European settlement. Even today, you can still catch a glimpse of Paddy's Island from the Hummock lookout, connecting the present with the past in a profound way.

The Turtle Centre comes to life at night during Turtle season when guided tours are hosted. These tours include a viewing of the turtle centre, talks by rangers in the amphitheatre and a trip down to the beach to witness mummy turtles laying eggs or baby turtles making a run for the ocean. In the off season the Turtle Centre is open to view the exhibits and there are two nice board walks either side of the centre which lead directly out to the beach.

Baldwin Swamp Environmental Park

Baldwin Swamp is an awesome place for kids of all ages to explore. The park consists of a network of bush and concrete walking tracks, boardwalks and bridges in a lush picturesque setting. You will find lots of water birds and other wildlife to photograph as you weave your way through the freshwater wetlands and rain forest.
The wetlands are filled with bird life. We have seen swans, ducks, bats, lots of different birds, butterflies and snap dragons. Out of all the environment parks we have visited in the Bundaberg area this park most definitely has the most visible wildlife.
The George and Scotland Street entrances of Baldwin Swamp are shared with Lake Ellen Playground. This large park has equipment catering for children of all ages and abilities and is one of our favourite playgrounds to visit. We especially love going here in the cooler months with friends. This park has 2 main areas, the playgrounds, and bike and scooter tracks. You will find the toilet facilities for Baldwin Swamp Environment Park located here.
