5 tips for a smooth transition into Prep
Transitioning to Prep can be a daunting task for both parents and children…….but it does not have to be. I think by giving our kids as much positive information as we can about school we are setting me up for success.
Here are my top 5 tips for a smooth transition into Prep:
- Make sure you and your child attend any prep orientation days the school puts on.
- Get a photo of the school, classroom, playgroup and the class Teacher if you can and make your own story about your child going to school.
- Get your child involved in choosing something that they need for school, like their school bag, lunch box or water bottle.
- Practise getting dressed, some uniforms can be a bit tricky to put on.
- Take the time to sit with your child and listen to what they think school will be like. Discuss any worries they may have and answer all their questions. The more information they can have the calmer they will be.
The Department of Education and Training have released a free chatterbox template that you can download and make at home. It has some great ideas and activities that you can do with your child in preparing them for school. You can download the template HERE. I made one today, it was just a matter of printing it out and folding it up. I’d love to hear if you make one and what your child thinks of it. Let me know in the comments below.
