Cooking with Kids: Lunchbox Edition

The back-to-school rush has a way of sneaking up, and with it comes the daily question of what to put in the lunchbox. A free hands-on cooking class for kids and their parents is coming up in January, offering some simple ideas to make that routine a little easier.
Cooking with Kids - Lunchbox Edition is on Thursday 21 January 2027 from 9:30am to 11:30am, run by Bundaberg Regional Council's Child and Family Support team. It's open to children aged 0 to 12 and their parents or carers, who will cook together and learn easy, healthy and affordable lunchbox and snack ideas ahead of school and daycare starting again. There are simple recipes to try, a chance to build confidence in the kitchen, and plenty of inspiration to take home. The class is free, and bookings are essential, so families will need to get in touch with Kim McDonald to secure a spot.
Kids are often more willing to try new foods when they've had a hand in making them, which makes a class like this useful for fussy eaters and curious cooks alike. It also gives families a chance to pick up practical, budget-friendly ideas, spend time together in the kitchen and meet other local parents and carers. Learning a few simple recipes now can take some of the pressure off the school-morning routine, and gives kids a sense of ownership over what ends up in their lunchbox.
