Elliott Heads main attractions
Beach and River Mouth
There is a seasonally patrolled beach right in front of the Elliott Heads Surf Club. On rough days avoid this beach with littlies and instead head up the hill and down to the river mouth.
The mouth is fabulous for younger children especially at low tide. They can snorkel, play in the expanse of white sand, explore the rock pools, chase crabs or even fly a kite. The river mouth is very popular with canoes, kyacks, and stand up paddle boarders. Be careful if swimming here at high tide or as the tide is running out, there are lots of rocky areas in the river mouth and you don’t want to be swept out to sea!
There is a small island just south of the river mouth that can be accessed at low tide, but be careful not get stranded. The island closes certain times of the year for bird nesting season, just look for the signs posted on the island before you venture over.
For older kids there is fishing or crabbing, and beach volleyball is a regular. Check with the Bundaberg Beach Volleyball group for game and meet up times.
Playground and Paths
The playground is presently having a major upgrade and will reopen sometime in May this year. A great concrete path runs the entire length of the Esplanade from the Surf Club heading north for some 2.8km. Along the way you will find a submarine lookout site and Seagull Park. This path is perfect for prams, bikes, scooters, and skates with some great tree climbing opportunities along the way. We love taking this walk in the middle of the day during winter and late afternoons in the warmer months.
Accommodation, Shop and Recreation Facilities
The Elliott Heads Holiday Park is located right on the foreshore. The park caters for campers, caravans, and has beachfront cabins. We have friends who regularly camp here and absolutely love it. The Driftwood Cafe over looks the river mouth and serves great fish, chips, burgers, coffee and ice creams. You will also find a general store located just before you hit the esplanade on your way into Elliott Heads.
Tennis Courts and the Elliott Heads lawn bowls club can be found in Welsch Street. Head along the path from the surf club in a northerly direction up past the submarine lookout and you will find them near Seagull Park.

It’s pretty hard to fault. The path along the Esplanade may be a little scary in places for those with younger children who may venture too close to the edge.
