Sharon Gorge Nature Park

Sharon Gorge Nature Park
Sharon Gorge is located just 10 minutes outside of Bundaberg heading north on Bundaberg Gin Gin Road. Upon arrival at this park I was surprised by the tropical rain forest feeling. It was tranquil, quiet, lush, green and visually appealing. I was particularly surprised seeing as we were only metres away from a major road. My first impressions were very favourable.
Sharon Gorge Nature Park hosts free overnight camping as well as a walking track through the Gorge down to the Burnett River.
The Walk
I took with me 4 children aged 11, 10 and 2 x 8 on this walk. It was just under 1km in each direction. The initial part of the walk took us through the gorge entrance and into a tropical section of the park, this soon pitted out though and for the most part we were surrounded by scrubby bush land.
The path followed the flow of the gorge and was mainly dirt with some gravel and board walk areas. There was no running water, which was disappointing, I think running water would have added to the experience and something I know we really enjoyed at our recent visit at Russo Nature Park.
It took us about 10 minutes to reach the viewing deck over looking the river. We stopped here briefly, got some photos before heading back. All up we probably spent about 25 minutes in the park.
This is a good short walk and an easy way to fill in a half an hour. Not suitable for prams and small children may find some areas hard to manage.
Facilities
There are toilet facilities at the park entrance.
