BMX Star returns for Youth Month
He may be an internationally renowned BMX rider but Bundaberg’s Jack Fahey will be returning to his hometown to celebrate Youth Month.
Bundaberg Regional Council Community and Cultural Services portfolio spokesperson Cr Judy Peters said she was thrilled that Jack was able to participate in the program which runs throughout April.
“Jack is our very own local celebrity and we were ecstatic that he would take time out from touring to host an event for Bundaberg region youth,” Cr Peters said.
“He will host a BMX demonstration event at the Bundaberg Skate Park on Walla Street between 11am and 3pm on Saturday, April 23.
“There will be an opportunity for local BMX enthusiasts to try out their skills and they may even get some tips from one of the best riders our region has ever produced.”
Jack said he felt lucky to have been successful in his BMX career and now he wanted to give back to the community where it all started.
“Being from Bundaberg myself and starting my BMX career there at the age of 16, I noticed there was never really any events or anything for us to look forward to,” Jack said.
“After traveling the world over the past six years riding contests and shows in front of thousands of people, sometimes it’s crazy for me to think it all started just riding my bike around Bundy skate park.
“I feel really blessed to be able to do what I love so much as a living and from day one, the Bundaberg community has always shown me a lot of love and support, so it only feels right for me to give back to my town.”
He said he was now based in California but tried to return home at least once a year to visit friends and family.
“Every time I’m back, I love going to ride with the locals. I see a lot of talent down there at the skate park and I want to be able to hopefully inspire people down there to follow their dreams.
“If they want to ride BMX for a living or scooter or skate board – or whatever it may be – I want to be able to show them it is possible in the hope that one day they make it.
Jack said he hoped the event showed the community how much hard work and dedication went in to learning to ride, scooter and skate.
“I want the day to be fun for everyone even if you don’t ride come down, check it out and enjoy the show.”
