The Mary River at Gympie is expected to peak as a major flood at 17m on Sunday morning. This 17m peak is less than the 2013 peak of 19.98m, but will flood businesses in the Jaycee Way area of the CBD. The Bruce Highway is closed at Gympie and is expected to reopen sometime overnight on Sunday.
BOM hydrology have provided the following modelling for the Burnett Catchment – Burnett River area:
MONTO: Peaking now at about 6m (major flood level) – 2 houses flooded approx. 100mm above floorboard, three unoccupied cabins flooded with water approx. 300mm above floorboard. To further clarify the flooding is as a result of the Monal Creek and the Three Moon Creek which are tributaries of the Upper Burnett River. The Burnett River itself does not flow through the Monto Township. Flood level to commence receding shortly.
EIDSVOLD: To reach about 11 m (major flood level) around early afternoon 21/02/2015. This will only flood rural and grazing properties with no flooding to houses or important infrastructure. Evacuations do not occur as a result of Burnett River flooding. Evacuations in Eidsvold are as a result of localised flooding only caused by localised heavy rainfall. This has not occurred at his time.
MUNDUBBERA: To reach 11-12 m (moderate flood level) tonight going into tomorrow morning and unlikely to cause any issues for Mundubbera. Evacuations do not occur until water levels reach 15m.
GAYNDAH: To undergo two flood peaks of moderate flood level (lower end). One peak at around midday 21/05/2015 and then midday on 22/02/2015. Unlikely to cause any issues for Gayndah. Evacuations do not occur until water levels 16m.
BUNDABERG: To reach 4 to 4.5m (minor flood level) in the afternoon of the 22/02/2015 (Sunday) and to recede slowly by Tuesday the 24/02/2015. Evacuations do not occur until water levels reach about 5.5m to 6m.
To date, BOM hydrology modelling outlines that the river levels will not be anywhere near that of the flood event of 2013.
