Walking Tracks Bundaberg – take a look at the family friendly walking tracks across the Bundaberg area that we love. We’ve included our favourite riverside, beach side, bush and garden walks. Is your favourite walk on our list? If not let us know all about it in the comments below.
Riverside Boardwalk
The Riverside Boardwalk along the Burnett River is a great route for the whole family. It’s only about 3km from start to finish and the scenery is pretty spectacular!
You can start this walk at either end from Alexandra Park Zoo or at the River Cruz Cafe. Head down the board walk and follow the river bank. This track is perfect for prams, kids bikes, scooters or skates. A redeveloped area along this track is a perfect spot for fishing with kids.
Beachside Walking Tracks
Almost every beach in the Bundaberg area has their own spectacular beach side walking tracks.
Our favourites are at Bargara, and Elliott Heads but really choose any major beach, they all have great tracks. All walk ways are suitable for prams, bikes, scooters or skates.
Botanic Garden Tracks
The Bundaberg Botanic Gardens hosts some great walking tracks. Try their board walk through the wetlands, their bush tracks and the roads and paths that lead to the lake, Japanese and Chinese Gardens. All tracks are suitable for prams, kids bikes, scooters and in some areas skates.
Bush Walks
Russo Nature Park
We love a good bush walk. Our favourite local bush walk with kids is at Russo Nature Park just south of Childers on Goodwood Road. This walk not only includes great tracks but a shallow running creek to add to the adventure
Meadowvale Nature Park
We also don’t mind Meadowvale Nature Park which is only 10 minutes out of town along Rosedale Road. The park has 2 short walks both leading to Splitters Creek. Nice wide tracks great for kids on bikes and prams with pump up tyres.
Baldwin Swamp Environmental Park
If you don’t wish to travel out of town we recommend Baldwin Swamp Environment Park located just outside the CBD. This large park is packed with heaps of walking tracks and is overflowing with visible wildlife. A great place close to town for an adventure.
Sharon Gorge Nature Park
Sharon Gorge Nature Park is another local walking track also just 10 minutes out of town on the Bundaberg Gin Gin Road. This short walk takes just 20 minutes to complete the round trip.
Hummock Lookout & Reserve
The Hummock Lookout and Reserve walk hosts hosts one of the last remnants of the dry rainforest plant community, Woongarra Scrub. This boardwalk is an easy 10 minute stroll up to a small lookout, and perfect if you are short on time. The traditional hummock lookout area is a great place for family picnics in the cooler months.
Riverview Enviornmental Reserve
Riverview Environmental Reserve runs parallel with the pristine Elliott River just 15 minutes from town. The reserve has 3 easy short walks great for kids with wide tracks and a variety of vegetation.
Utopia Rock Pools
Mt Walsh Utopia Rock Pools are simply devine. Located in the Mt Walsh National Park just outside of Biggenden this is a good 1 1/2 hour drive from Bundaberg, but is is so worth it.
Drive to the car park and walk 2km to the rock pools. You will know you’ve arrived when you hear the sounds of running water.
Banksia Walking Track
The Woodgate Banksia walking track is a great nature walk to explore with kids. It’s set within the Woodgate section of the Burrum Coast National Park and includes both a boardwalk wetland area and a bush walking track.
