What to Do When You Feel Lonely
What to Do When You Feel Lonely
Feeling lonely is a common experience that can affect anyone, regardless of background or age. While Wide Bay Kids does not provide direct services or a helpline, we would like to share resources and strategies to help you cope with loneliness based on our own experiences.
Little Steps Make a Difference
- Say Hello: Small chats with neighbours, retail workers, or people at the bus stop can help you feel more connected and even brighten someone else's day.
- Connect Online: Use technology to stay in touch with family or make new friends.
Consider Support and Services
- Talk About Your Feelings: Discussing your emotions with someone can be helpful. Access talking therapies through your GP, community support organisations, or privately.
- Local Support: Find a Community Hub, Neighbourhood Centre or Community Connectors and Social Prescribers can link you to services and activities to encourage wellbeing.
Managing Loneliness on Your Own
- Plan Enjoyable Activities: Schedule hobbies or activities that make you feel good, such as creative projects, reading, gardening, or listening to music.
- Spend Time Outdoors: Regular outdoor activities can boost your mood and help you feel more connected to your environment.
- Self-Care: Focus on healthy eating, staying active, and getting enough sleep.
- Positive Thinking: Reflect on the good things in life and happy memories to foster a positive mindset.
- Cuddle an Animal: If you have a pet, send time with them or visit a local farm or animal experience.
Connect with Others
- Catch Up with Friends: Reach out to friends via phone or social media. You might be surprised at how eager they are to connect.
- Invest in New Connections: Join local groups or classes based on your interests, or consider volunteering to meet new people and develop your skills.
Social365 Project
Wide Bay Kids is proud to introduce Social365, a new initiative aimed at reducing loneliness by promoting social connections within the Bundaberg community. Social365 will highlight 10 local social, community, and sporting groups, sharing inspiring stories and encouraging people to get involved. Through engaging digital content, Social365 aims to create a stronger, more connected community.
Expressions of interest for participating groups are now open. Join us in building a more connected Bundaberg! For more information, visit our website. You are not alone.
