12 Australia Day Games for Kids
Are you looking for some Australia Day games ideas? We’ve put together a list of our favourite Australia Day games to play with kids…..but really when it comes down to it you can Aussie up any of your kids favourites.
THONG TOSSING
Mark out an area on grass or sand if you’re at the beach. Set some rules, like no over arm. Use small thongs for little kids they find them easier to use.
EAT A BISCUIT INTO THE SHAPE OF AUSTRALIA
Get hold of some Arnott’s arraroot biscuits and see if you can eat your way into an Australian shape! This is so much trickier than it sounds!
PLAY THE CHOCOLATE GAME
Grab a block of chocolate, a plate, knife, fork, dice and some aussie dress up’s like an apron, hat and thongs. The person in has to first dress up and then use the knife and fork to eat the chocolate. Whoever rolls the next 6 on the dice is next in, quickly get dressed and start eating!
HAVE AN EGG & SPOON RACE
Watch your Wide Bay Kids as they race around an obstacle course trying not to drop their egg. We love using egg shaped christmas decorations and big kitchen ladel’s for younger kids. Start a timer or race against each other.
SLIP AND SLIDE
Get your kids outside connect the hose to the sprinkler and start slippin and sliding in the back yard.
HAVE A GAME OF BEACH OR BACKYARD CRICKET
Set up your stumps and cricket pitch. A bin or chair will do if you don't have the real thing. Over the fence or in the water is out.......we usually let the younger kids have 4 hits before it's the next persons turn.
GO ON AN AUSSIE SCAVENGER HUNT
Send the kids out into the back yard with a list of Aussie things to collect.
LAMINGTON EATING COMPETITION
Place a lamington on a plate in front of each person, everyone puts their hands behind their backs, and when you shout ‘go!’ whoever can eat their lamington first without using their hands is named victorious.
GET MOVING WITH SOME SACK OR 3 LEGGED RACES
Use old pillow cases as sacks or to tie your legs together, each child jumps or runs their way over the finish line. You can make the track harder for adults by adding obstacles.
PIN THE TAIL ON THE KANGAROO
This old favourite is always a hit. Use an old cardboard box to create your own kangaroo.
AUSSIE DAY QUIZ
Choose someone to be the Trivia Master and compete as teams or individually to answer the most answers correctly with our Australia Day quiz here.
HAVE A GAME OF CARDS
Our WBK's love a game of cards in the shade when it gets too hot to run around and play. If you’re looking for ways to teach your kids good financial habits through fun, see this page on pocket money. We love fish and snap, especially after lunch or before nap time. We found these giant cards at Kmart.
TUG-O-WAR
This is a great game especially if adults get involved! Use an Aussie flag as the centre guide and PULLLLLLL
