Easter in the gardens 2023: Reflecting on a Successful Community Project
Easter in the Gardens 2023 was a community connection and participation project that took place in April and featured 10 giant eggs and one golden egg hidden at the Bundaberg Botanic Gardens.
The event attracted an estimated attendance of over 2,500 people, with 93% of attendees visiting during the Easter school holidays. The project engaged with six artists who designed and painted the giant eggs, which were then sponsored by local business, school, community groups, organisations, local and state Governments.

Community Support
The project saw over 150 volunteer hours completed by Wide Bay Kids Parents and Friends Committee; and Happy Hearts of Bundaberg and Bundaberg Boomerang Bags members. These groups designed and installed15 smaller, 60 cm, eggs and hung over 200 Happy Hearts, at the gardens for visiting to find.
Local business got behind this project and supported the event by sponsoring the giant eggs.

In addition to the 10 sponsors, Easter in the Gardens 2023 received widespread support receiving a grant from the Regional Arts Development Fund a partnership between the Queensland Government and Bundaberg Regional Council to support local arts and culture in regional Queensland. Two additional businesses Elders Insurance Bundaberg and Natures Emporium also supported the project as silver sponsors.

Exposure
Easter in the Gardens 2023 was not limited to the Bundaberg Botanic Gardens, but also reached out to other locations, including Bundaberg, Gin Gin, Childers Libraries, and Alexandra Park Zoo.
The project saw impressive online engagement, with 5,326 Easter in the Gardens website page views and 94,566 Easter in the Gardens Facebook reach.
The project was also featured on the front page of Bundaberg Today and in an article with a circulation of 21900, in addition to an Easter School holiday pocket guide advert and map with a circulation of 10,000, 400 flyers, and 30 posters. The project was also featured on ABC Wide Bay, with two interviews and a weekly audience of 43000. Coverage also included articles published with Bundaberg Now, Bundaberg Tourism, BN Weekender Digital Magazine and School Holiday Digital Pocket Guide.
Sponsors, Artists, Bundaberg Botanic Gardens and Attendees also provided exposure by posting to their socials during the event project timing.
